Weekly Recap
Hi friends…since we last spoke
Been a very enjoyable week and getting into a good routine.
In other news, I am starting a new pod series within Brookomode that will explore specific topics in short 10-20 min episodes that are perfect for tiny issues, problems and ideas. The aim is so that it’s a concentrated episode perfect for the duration of a car-trip where we cut straight to the chase. A relationship series, a habit series, a thoughts changing series etc… Stay tuned. They will be a bonus to the 2 podcasts a week so lots of content to come.
2 Ideas from me
1.When you charter the unknown, it’s easy to get pulled back into the current of the known.
When our lives start transforming, there are lots of unknowns. Feeling good becomes scary because we’re so used to the big crashes after positive periods. When will I stop feeling good? The nervous system has wired into it a program that is expecting certain things to follow. Your body & brain are expecting a fall. Sometimes it’s easier to give into these familiar feelings because it’s certain. At least we know what shit feels like. That’s why there’s that saying about old habits dying hard.
Personally, my life & mindset have changed so much that I’ve gone through periods expecting a crash. I was not used to experiencing life in such a positive way. I’m just so fortunate and grateful to be discovering this at 22. Now, I’m inspired to help others do the same and change this trajectory.
So how do I manage the uncertainty?
To build the suspense, this will be a Podcast series as mentioned in the intro as I cannot give the answers you deserve in a few sentences. I promise it’s worth the wait, embrace the uncertainty 😉
2. The louder the ego, the bigger the dream
Whenever I’m truly passionate about something, it can also be just as equally scary. Our ego then tries so hard to protect us from failure and disappointment so it creates this narrative, this story inside our head to prevent us from going out of comfort zone and into the Arena to chase it.
The idea is simple, if you can hear and feel the fear inside of you and have the courage to call it out, you will uncover the true passion you have. Often underneath our excuses and rationalisations is our dreams.
1 Quote
“Hindsight is a wonderful thing but foresight is better, especially when it comes to saving life, or some pain!”
– William Blake
Reflection is an important tool to learn from the past and optimise from your failures. However, projecting into the future by visualising how your current actions will compound into the future is arguably more important.
The past is done. I’m big on reflecting but I’m bigger on trajectory. The actions you’re taking today will accumulate into your future self, this is where you should be putting your attention to.
Obsessing about the past can lead to self-shaming and disempowerment where as the present brings an element of hope, control and empowerment.
1% Tip
From Steven Bartlett: why will this idea fail? Start to be really honest about it and think about why it might not succeed. Be a realist so your delusion doesn’t cost you precious resources. But these questions should be consulted with other people so your limiting beliefs and fears aren’t preventing you from achieving what is reachable.
Asking yourself this sort of question is a great form of foresight that allows you to project your ideas into the future to save unnecessary pain. It can be discouraging, confrontational and emotionally draining but in the long run it saves time and energy and gives you the opportunity to execute the right ideas.
Foresight is incredible.
