Vision, Responsibility & Hardmode

Weekly Recap

Hi friends…since we last spoke

Went down south over the weekend and spent some time with Mum which was very nice and was great to get her perspective on important things in my life.

Also, this week I released my Smiley Brookomode Tee with a meaning of Embracing the Uncertainty, learning to get out of your comfort zone and have a smile during the uncertain periods. Life can change so much for the better when you dream big and take the risks you really want. Keep believing in yourself.

Tee’s here $40 xx

2 Ideas from me

1. The Vision Vacuum: the gap between who we are and who we want to be CAN be so draining if we give it that power

When we find clarity on an ideal version of ourselves, it can be a hard pillow to swallow knowing how far away this version currently is. That’s why I call it the Vision Vacuum, it can suck the life out of you in many ways. It can manifest in so many ways as either shame, anxiety or a lethargic feeling. Which can be paradoxical, you have this clear vision of who you want to be why aren’t you full of excitement and ambition?

It truly is about Embracing the Uncertainty and loving the journey. Something I have done so well over the past few weeks especially. I no longer let the future take away from the beauty of my current circumstances because things will inevitably improve and there is so much joy in the ride. Life is all about the journey. Also, overly fixating on who you want to be may actually limit you. You may learn new things about yourself and life and perspectives may change. Having a fixed destination can be a curse.

There’s also nothing wrong with not having everything you desire right now. It should be something we look forward to achieving because if we spend all this anxious energy chasing the comfort of “being good enough” then the feeling we get after reaching the top of the mountain will be one of relief not one of excitement and happiness. The way you approach the journey plays the biggest role in the emotions you feel on the journey. These emotions are what dictates the fulfillment you get from it and life itself.

Be impatiently patient.

2. Your insecurities are not an excuse

Something I am learning quickly and learning to take ownership of. Just because your behaviours may stem from a place of fear doesn’t make it acceptable. Yes, it may have had a huge influence on what you did but if we always give ourselves that excuse are we really going to change?

Overcoming insecurities starts with acceptance which includes responsibility. Accept that you made mistakes and displayed a version of yourself that wasn’t who you want to be. That is okay. But a willingness to take responsibility for this will be the ultimate character test. Can you be vulnerable and grow? Or will you live in the comfort of blame?

“Hard mode is the silent killer of consistency.”

– Jack Mac Episode #51

In this episode I gave Teale and Jack the idea of easy and hard mode. We often think a task has a fixed level of difficulty i.e, going to the gym in the morning. But it’s often shaped by the actions we take in preparation, will we do the task on easy or hard mode?

Gym Morning Example

Easy mode = healthy dinner, night-time routine, prepare morning gym clothes

Hard mode = late night sugar snacking, late night, not preparing clothes for gym

So Jack proposed that we put ourselves into hard mode and this is what kills our consistency. It’s actually a genius conception because then we can take the focus off the task and put more energy into the conditions around the task, make it as easy as possible for us to succeed. The thing will be the same no matter how much we think of it, put that energy into shifting into easy mode.

Mindmapping your life: Taking this from Teale in #51. We often get stuck with what our vision or purpose in life is. Get out a big sheet of paper and brain dump. What do you like? What don’t you like? What do you want a day-to-day to look like? Where do you get happiest? Who do you want to spend time around?

From there, Teale says you will get a little bit of clarity but you don’t need to lock yourself in. Try new things from this start and the action you take will quickly give you perspective on the life you want.

Pod Summary

EP #51:  – Teale Lyon – the perfect episode for anyone struggling to take big action with their dreams. She has a great mindset and a willingness to take risks. Learnt so much from how she frames failure and risk.

Ep #52: Isaac Davidson – Strength and Conditioning Coach & Founder of Perform HQ. Very wise man with lots of knowledge, was a great episode to get his insights into his personal journey and also some of his very useful training advice for athletes.
