Self Story, Uncertainty and Streaks

Been a solid week. Learnt my lessons and took my foot off the accelerator this week. Really proud of myself for continuing to show up after mistakes and setbacks. Learning a lot about life & myself from these experiences.

2 Ideas from me

  1. The right answer is the one you write.

Life don’t have meaning, we give meanings to life.

Often, we let other people assign meaning to our lives. We let their expectations and beliefs overrule our own idea of life. The cost is our happiness for the sake of their acceptance.

Why?

As humans, we want to fit in. We want to be accepted. We want to belong. The problem is that we suppress our authentic selves in order to be accepted. We say yes to others and no to ourselves.

Potential solution?

The story you tell yourself.

What are the things you say to yourself to justify what you do?

You can always tell yourself a story that justifies your action.

Don’t let that story be the reason you never be yourself.

Bring it to your awareness. Have the difficult conversation with yourself. Have the courage to ask yourself whether you’re living life for you.

People will think you’re ignoring them but you’re just listening to yourself…

Two stories. One matters most.

  1. Success will manifest in ways you can’t imagine

We promise ourselves a future to justify the present struggle.

We fixate on outcomes as a coping mechanism.

Instead, I encourage you to let go of those pre determined versions of success that you tell yourself.

Why?

When we constantly focus on what we’re trying to achieve, we lose sight of the process and limit ourselves in the process.

We spend most of our time worrying about being at the finish line, unaware that the successful completion of each goal starts the beginning of another.

Life is about the journey, not the destination.

A constant focus on the goal can take away from the process.

We place arbitrary limits on ourselves so we often don’t reach our potential because we get complacent. Learning to enjoy the journey and improve along the way ensures consistency and a way to reach your potential.

Success often comes in ways we can’t envision. Spending our time trying to gain certainty within the uncertainty will not only create unnecessary stress and anxiety but can also potentially limit us.

Embrace the Uncertainty of your growth.

Find ways to cultivate enjoyment from the entire journey and not the self-generated importance of arbitrary goalposts.

Success will come in ways you’re not currently aware of. Don’t lose hope when the goal seems out of reach.

It may be an unforeseen opportunity, healing from the past, finding new passions… etc.

Life is unpredictable. Stop trying to predict your success. It will come in ways more amazing than you can ever imagine if you’re willing to be open to them.

One bad chapter doesn’t define a book. You just stayed on the page too long

A great analogy for life. We will go through many ups and downs. Lots of the time we let this chapter define us. We become the chapter. We forego our success story because we can’t move on. Life is full of chapters. It’s our responsibility to end certain chapters and begin new ones.

Just remember, you’re the narrator.

Create a streak.

Anytime I want to change my behaviour, the most effective way is to gamify it. Find a way to make all the little days worthwhile. Creating streaks to my ice-baths makes everyday mean something. Missing that day would matter. The reason we give up is because we forget how important consistency is. Creating a streak for our habits means every day matters.
